Curtainwall Resurfacing – Queens, NY – 7500 sq. ft. of widespread deep scratches from post construction tempered glass window cleaning caused 7000 sq. ft. of tempered glass curtain wall to become completely scratched.   From the pattern of the scratches, it appears to be caused from fabrication debris damage.  The widespread glass scratches were first, ground out.  Then, the tempered curtain wall had to be completely resurfaced if the glass was to be restored.  Since this was a busy hospital in Queens, NY, we were required to work nights to minimize any disruption to normal activities.  The upside of performing scratched tempered glass resurfacing at night is that, using floodlights shows all the scratches, even better than the sun. Also, any haze or swirls are readily visible. The deep glass scratch polishing process moves along much faster as well. This saved enormous amounts of time since nothing is missed.  If there’s one thing that I dislike, it’s going back and doing touch-ups.  Ask anyone who’s ever worked with me! The project was a success and a huge relief to Bovis Lend Lease.  This project Curtainwall Resurfacing Manhasset (Queens, NY) building at LIJ Women’s Hospital is a $250 million hospital facility located on the Long Island Jewish Medical Center campus.  The project consisted of a 9-story, 28,000 sq. ft. building with lots of tempered glass.  While many claim fabrication debris is just a conspiracy theory, we have seen, can identify it, and best of all, can remove tempered glass scratches caused by it!  Fortunately, on this LIJ project, only the main level glass curtain-wall was affected by the widespread scratching damage.
