Fixing Glass Scratches in Paradise Valley, AZ
Interesting restoration project in beautiful Paradise Valley. Amazing mountain view adversely affected by the union of a green scrubby pad and the big tempered windows and glass doors. An unfortunate mistake that was resolved by Unscratch the Surface. However, we weren’t the first company to attempt to rectify this scratch situation. More about that later!
750 Square Feet of Scratched Windows and Doors in Paradise
When you have great mountain views, you want to be able to capture those views as much as possible. Therefore you need big doors and windows. Unfortunately the cost of replacement glass is also big.
A common mistake was made while cleaning these panels, post construction cleanup. The #1 cause of scratched tempered glass is using a metal scraper when fabrication debris is present. This was not the culprit in this case.
Many people don’t realize that green 3M scrubby pads contain abrasives. They work great on stainless steel, grills, and cast iron pans. However, as was discovered in this home in Phoenix, they absolutely will scratch the glass! Therefore, we were called in to unscratch it!

Raising Arizona was the movie that quote came from. Watch it if you haven’t seen it! What does scratched glass repair have to do with this Nick Cage quote? We’ll come back to that.
Some interesting events with this project.
First of all, we weren’t the first restoration company called to fix the scratches. The builder, Diamond Spur Builders, found a glass restoration company from San Diego, CA. This company charged $2500.00 to fly to Phoenix and perform about a 3 sq. ft. sample or demo. Side note: tempered glass is much easier to work on because there is practically zero% chance of breaking while resurfacing. Working on annealed or non tempered, even heat “strengthened”, is risky because they all can crack from excessive heat, usually during the polishing step, and when you’re close to the edge. There were 20 non tempered windows on this job. Definitely have to be on your “A” game when working on resurfacing annealed windows.
Draw your own conclusions from the review. I blurred the name out. Don’t ever pay anyone a $2500.00 deposit or this can happen to you! If you have been in the scratched glass industry for 10+ years, you should have a fairly good idea of what to expect. $2500.00 day for a few hours of flying and doing a small demo is pretty good money! I wish I would have thought of that…but I’m not deviously minded. Learn from this builders mistake. After hearing the whole story from the builder, it sounded like this other glass guy had no intention of doing this job. He almost seemed intent to irritate and aggravate the builder to force the final outcome of kicking this other company off the job. Quite the scam if true. Use your own judgement. Or call the builder! Seemed like a straight shooter to me.
I would recommend looking into other options and getting multiple quotes before making a decision. It’s important to do your research and read Unscratch The Surface reviews to ensure you are working with a reputable company. It’s unfortunate that the builder had to go through this experience, but hopefully, others can learn from it and avoid similar situations in the future.

Before I forget
After the contractor kicked that other company off the project, they actually found a local Phoenix company, the Glass Restoration Guru, Billy Templeton. We have worked with Billy on a few large projects before. Good scratched glass guy and just generally a good person. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to take on this project at the time so he recommended Unscratch the Surface to the rescue. We did work together with GRG for a few days on this job. So definitely call Billy first for glass projects in Phoenix. If he can’t do it, then get in touch with us for Phoenix AZ Glass Scratch Repair work. Text or call – 805-295-9020
