Is It Possible To Remove Scratches In Glass Floors?

How Do Glass Floors Get Scratched?

Nobody ever actually figured out where the glass scratches came from!
So, if you’ve ever looked into it, you probably already know that glass floors can be rather expensive. But, did you know the glass is usually very thick and almost always is triple laminated glass. Then the question arises, can you even fix glass scratches on laminated floors?
Even though we have been fixing glass scratches since 2005, people still wonder, how is it possible to fix glass scratches in any kind of glass.
We have said in the past, “scratched glass is scratched glass”. Probably a more accurate statement is, “If you can fix scratched glass you can fix almost any scratched glass!”
The process we invented is both simple and elegant! While it’s important to have the best possible grinding and polishing materials for glass scratch repair, there is a bit of technique involved as well. Just as a golfer may have the best equipment, without mastering the best swing techniques, he will still be a terrible golfer!
We patented our scratched glass restoration process, which includes a “dry grinding method” and some specialized abrasives. When attempting to fix scratched glass, the trick is to get the damage out as quickly as possible. Most people equate that with just using the most aggressive grit of silicon carbide. This is not the best way to fix scratches on glass however. Also important when attempting to fix scratched glass is to uniformly remove the scratches before polishing. If you try and over polish glass, you WILL get distortion. I always say, “Distortion looks much worse than glass scratches and is far more noticeable from even further away.

If You Fix Glass Scratches in Glass Floors, Does It Weaken The Floor?
This is a very common question we are asked frequently when called on to fix scratched glass. The short answer is NO! Think about it like this. If the scratched glass in question is 1/4 inch thick and a very deep scratch removal tempered glass is about .004 thousandths of an inch deep, then you have to remove 4 from 250 thousandths of an inch. So, you’re still left with 246 thousandths thick glass. Most accidental scratches are NOT 4 thousandths deep.
Also, think about when a glazier cuts glass, First they score it, or “scratch” it. Then the glass breaks along the scoring line. If the glass wasn’t scored, it wouldn’t break along that line. Therefore, if you remove that scoring line, the glass will not break along that “weakest” spot.
